Confederation of African Football (CAF) is content with Rwanda’s preparations for the upcoming CHAN 2016 that will be held from January 16 to February 7.
A four-member delegation including the CAF Competitions Director, Shereen Arafa, CAF Marketing Officer, Iman Said, CAF Media Director, Junior Binyam and CAF IT Director, Tarek El Deeb visited the country in May to assess the progress of the preparations and commended the hosts for being on the right track.
Along with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) led by president Vincent Degaule, they toured the four host stadiums including Amahoro and Kigali regional stadium in Kigali, Huye stadium in the Southern Province and Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu in the Western Province.
#CHAN2016 will be hosted in 3 cities in Rwanda – the capital city Kigali, Huye in the Southern Province & Rubavu in the Western Province.

Binyam said, “We have never had a doubt about Rwanda hosting CHAN. This decision was based on past experience of hosting several continental competitions.
“We are impressed with the progress of preparations, there is a few things that are yet to be completed but we are confident everything will be on time.”
The delegation also inspected among many other facilities, training stadiums and hotels as well as had a look into the security plans and transport details.
LOC vice president who is also the spokesman, Emmanuel Bugingo (Director of Sports at the Ministry of Sports and Culture) said, “In general, construction and renovation works are progressing well. Our target is to be ready by the end of October and, according to the current trend, we feel that we shall meet the deadline. It is the general impression.”
Rwanda successfully hosted the 2009 African Youth Championships as well as the 2011 African U-17 Championship.
